“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.” ~Romans 12: 9-11
Sometimes it’s easy to fall into the habit of pretending to love others. Sometimes it’s even easy to stop pretending, especially in a family. Genuine affection towards one another? Delight in honoring each other? Ha! Here are some godly parenting tips that could help.
- Hate Wrong, Hold Tight to Good
If you hate wrong and hold tight to what is good, then this can help you to really love others. For example, it’s wrong to be selfish, it’s good to put others (siblings included) first. Putting others first is a way to show love. You get the idea.
2. Take Delight in Honoring
The old adage, ‘If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all’ comes to mind here. Teach your little ones to say nice things. The verses in the Bible that admonish us to build each other up are numerous.
3. Work Hard and Serve the Lord Enthusiastically
Newton’s first law of motion says, “An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion,” It’s too easy to sit like a lump and do little or nothing. The Bible teaches us that laziness leads to poverty. Being active and staying in good shape can help you to be ready and able to serve the Lord enthusiastically in whatever way He asks.
Here’s hoping that these godly parenting tips help you to take heart. It isn’t impossible. With Christ’s help, you can do this!
